Musician, personality and District Six Museum tour guide, Joe Schaffers, will take you for an hour and a half walking tour of old District Six.   This is a District Six Museum event supported by The Fringe and Creative Week Cape Town.

The tour focuses on the parts of District Six which overlap with The Fringe: Cape Town’s newly developing Design and Innovation District.  Find out more about this fascinating area – the politically charged Stakesbury Lewis Hostel, the nightlife area of Castle Bridge, the Peninsula Maternity Hospital and the famous Bloemhof Flats will all be covered in this unique walk.

Joe grew up and spent much of his early adulthood in this iconic district of Cape Town which produced some of the most important artists, educators and politicians/community leaders the city has seen.  District Six has been commemorated in numerous books, photo essays and  exhibitions, but what did it actually feel like? Understand what life here was really like from one of its notable residents.

The tour is restricted to 15 people maximum, on a first come first served basis.

Starts at the District Six Museum, 27a Buitenkant Street.
